At Sutton High School, we offer Scholarships and bursaries at 11+ and at Sixth Form entry. Please do get in touch if you have any questions.
The Scholars Programme at Sutton High School has as its aim the encouragement and intellectual growth of a group of talented, able young women. We help our girls develop a sense of responsibility to themselves and others, clear ambition and the ability to question, with a truly open mind, the things they see and encounter around them.
While Scholars are expected to take a lead and actively participate in their area of expertise under the guidance of the relevant Head of Department, they are also expected to play a full, well-rounded part in the busy life of the school.
Academic Scholarships are awarded based on performance in the 11+ entrance examination or in the Sixth Form scholarship examination and may cover up to 50% of fees for outstanding candidates.
Performance Scholarships – for Art, Music and Sport – are assessed separately at 11+ and 16+ and are typically set at the 10% level. Awards of up to 30% of fees may be awarded for outstanding candidates. At Sixth Form, the opportunity for a Drama Scholarship is also available.
Girls with Academic and Performance Scholarships benefit from being selected for and taking part in activities appropriate for their stage, abilities and interests, as well as contributing in a proactive way throughout their time in school. Art and Music Scholars are normally expected to study their subjects at GCSE. A Scholarship is a responsibility as well as an achievement and is subject to continued performance and commitment.
Assessment for Performance Scholarships is carried out in school. Candidates are invited to interview and are asked to perform practical tasks on the day. These assessments are carried out by subject specialists and are designed for candidates to demonstrate their ability, interest and potential.
A limited number of bursaries for up to 100% of fees are available for girls joining us at 11+ and 16+. Their award is based on academic merit as well as the income and financial resources of the candidate’s family.
As demand is extremely high, bursary awards will be offered to selected pupils following the entrance examination. Successful bursary applicants will receive a bursary throughout their time in the school subject to annual reassessment and satisfactory academic progress.
Bursary applications are assessed by GDST Head Office and the final award, based on the GDST assessment, is made at the discretion of the Headmistress.
In order to apply for a bursary place, please indicate that you would like to apply for financial assistance when you complete the school application form to register your daughter. You will be required to supply a valid email address to enable the school to provide you with logon details to allow you to access the GDST online bursary application system. Applications should be made as early as possible and the closing date for entry in September 2018 is 6 October 2017.
