Year 6 - Meeting Becky Middleton & Inter-House Cricket
As part of Sports Week Year 6 had the privilege of meeting Becky Middleton, a professional hockey player. Having had many career highlights to date, including 104 England/Great Britain caps, a Commonwealth and 3 x European Bronze Medallist, 2014/15 Premier League Player of the Year and 2 x Premier League top scorer, she was hugely inspirational to listen to. The girls were also fortunate enough to be able to ask her questions. After their talk with Becky, the girls took part in an inter-house cricket tournament. They thoroughly enjoyed applying the skills they had learnt in their PE lessons and there were some very close run games! With a few more games still to play next week, the winner of the tournament is yet to be decided. Thank you to the PE department for organising such a fun and motivational afternoon.
Year 2 - History & DT
In our History topic we have been looking at different types of transport. We really enjoyed the lesson on flight and learning about the Wright brothers. We watched some old footage of different people attempting to fly; some of them were very funny! We followed instructions to make our own paper aeroplanes and had a lot of fun flying them on the field. In Science, we have started our topic on plants. This week, we learnt about different seeds. We enjoyed looking at them through the magnifying glass and tried to guess what fruit or plant they were from. In our Design Technology lessons, we have been designing and making moving vehicles. This week, we added wheels and axles to our vehicles and will be racing them in the playground.
Year 4 - Art
Emese Hall and Penny Hay state that, ‘the arts are essential in life. They can shape and define who we are and how we understand ourselves and our possible selves. Artistic experience fuels imagination and in turn imagination fuels creativity.‘ Well, in Year 4 this week we have certainly been fuelling our imagination and enhancing our self esteem as we have been having a wonderful time with Katrin Hall, our regular visiting artist friend. Kat has inspired us to create some fabulous lion batik work based on Aslan from our class novel from last term, ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.’ The atmosphere was delightfully calm as the girls focused completely on their task and listened respectfully and wholeheartedly to Kat’s instructions. The results have been exceedingly impressive, and the girls will now attempt to use their batik print to create a cushion cover next term as a lovely memento of their time in Year 4.
