Poesiae Competition - Kamini is our Sutton High Global Winner!

26 April 2022

Following our enthusiastically received Year 10 poetry recitation in school last month, we are thrilled to announce that we have a global winner in our first ever batch of entries to the Poesiae Modern Languages competition.  Organised by Packwood Haugh School in Shropshire, the competition has been going since the Covid pandemic, and schools from every continent took part this year.  Against this stiff competition from schools such as Tunbridge Wells Girls’ Grammar School and Roedean School, Kamini from Year 10 has done incredibly well to carry off the prize for Year 10 German with her rendition of the poem “Die Wolke” by Eva Rechlin:

Kamini showed commendable determination to improve her performance, learning her poem by heart and really making it her own by her use of gesture, clear enunciation and dramatic performance.  The poem is about a cloud in the sky which takes on different shapes and ends up in the shape of a camel with tears in its eyes – an explanation for why it rains!

Very many congratulations, Kamini! You can watch the video of her receiting the poem below.
