Pupils at Sutton High School, GDST are over the moon today and celebrating a superb set of GCSE results. With four pupils gaining straight 9 grades and a quarter of all pupils with straight 8 and 9 grades (A*).
Over half of our pupils have secured all of their GCSE grades at A or A* level and we are delighted that our results are in line with the teacher-assessed grades of 2021 (with 86% of grades at a 7, 8 or 9 in both years) and significantly above the grades in the last year of actual examinations (2019), with over twice the number of the top grade 9 (37%) and two-thirds of grades at A* (8/9).
Our school is a community where pupils are encouraged to play to their strengths and this cohort were the first to have completed totally open GCSE choices, with the timetable built to suit their ambitions. We are confident that this freedom to select GCSE options from a wide range of subjects has enabled our pupils to excel, supported by excellent pastoral care across two very challenging years. Pupils have worked tremendously hard, having been taught online for much of Year 9 and 10.
Head, Beth Dawson, said:
“I could not be more proud of this incredible cohort. Not only have they achieved a stellar set of GCSE results, but more importantly they have done so with grit, kindness and a genuine sense of collaboration. Throughout the examinations and the years leading to them, they created a warm community, supporting each other towards their own personal aspirations. I am thrilled that their hard work has been rewarded today and I am so excited to see what they will now achieve as they move on to our Sixth Form.”
