Our Languages Cabaret Evening on Thursday 5th February was a joyful, high-energy celebration of languages across the school! With over 60 pupils performing and an audience of 100 gathered in our beautifully transformed cabaret-style hall — complete with checked tablecloths, twinkling candles and atmospheric lighting — the scene was set for something special. From the very first act, there was a real buzz in the room. It was a night full of colour, confidence and applause — and truly one to remember!
From Year 7 to Year 13, students performed in Spanish, French, German, Mandarin and Latin, showcasing an impressive range of acts including spelling bees, tongue twisters, poetry, drama, song, dance and film. The breadth of languages and styles on display reflected both the richness of our curriculum and the enthusiasm of our students.
Highlights included the Spanish, German and French spelling bees where the Year 7s could spell the words at lightning speed and hilarious moments such as the Mandarin haggling scene, the German bake-of gone wrong and the Latin play performed by our Latin “Sketchy Club” members. There were beautiful poetry recitals and performances, with many pupils having learnt the poems and songs off by heart, dynamic Spanish and French dances from Year 8 and powerful senior performances including Panis Angelicus, 99 Luftballons and an acoustic version of Balance ton quoi.
What stood out most was the courage of our students. Performing in another language requires confidence, resilience and commitment — and every performer rose to the occasion. The standard was exceptionally high, with students demonstrating excellent pronunciation, expression and stage presence throughout the evening.
We are incredibly proud of all who took part and grateful to the families who came to support the event. It was a wonderful celebration of culture, creativity and the joy of languages.
