Autumn Fun Day
After last year’s success of Autumn Fun Day with our pupils who citied it as one of their best highlights of the year we couldn’t help but run this again for all pupils in Nursery – Year 6!
Pupils arrived dressed in their very best autumnal colours of red, orange, yellow, and brown with some pupils having created special autumn adornments on their heads or in their hair.
The day consisted of choreographed dances in EYFS, Year 1 – 3 with Glow sticks with pupils creating freeze frames together as a class based on keywords, and teacher led choreography linked to Autumn with their final routine performed as a whole group. In Year 4 – 6 an introductory piece of choreography was taught to pupils before pupils worked in small groups to choreograph the next section of the song based on the keywords, incorporating their ribbons creatively.
The weather wasn’t going to dampen the day for campfire, marshmallows, and hot chocolate when ‘Plan B’ had to came into action. The normal roaring flames and cracking embers of a campfire was now replaced by the roar of three camping stoves to toast marshmallows and the all-important cup of hot chocolate to wash the marshmallows down!
Further creative aspects of the day came in the form of Autmn Walks around the school for inspiration for their art creating charcoal leaf drawings, watercolour leaves, and an array of artistic pieces. With creative writing in the form of poetry using some of the inspirational work of Shirley Hughes Out and About a first Book of Poems with illustrations linked to all weathers and our four seasons being in the great outdoors. Year 6 wrote a French cinquain poem and used autumnal colours to decorate its mount. We are looking forward to seeing their work on display in their classrooms.
