We held our annual Year 7 Concert on Tuesday 20th October in the Lees Hall and it was, as ever, a wonderful celebration of music-making and an excellent showcase of the musical talent of our new Year 7 students. The concert began with a number of solo performances, including instrumental works by Tchaikovsky, Elgar and Yann Tiersen alongside the songs ‘A Million Dreams’ from The Greatest Showman and ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’.
Congratulations to Josephine (flute), India (violin), Darya (piano), Alexandra (trumpet), Lily (voice), Chelsea (piano), Sara (flute), Riya (voice) and Reema (violin) who all delivered their solos with great accuracy, poise and musicianship.
The evening concluded with a selection of songs from Annie sung by all the students in Year 7, who have been learning the songs in the weekly music lessons since the start of the year. The girls performed the songs with great energy and confidence, bringing smiles to the faces of all in the audience. Their willingness to step onto the stage, share their musical talents and support one other undoubtedly reflected the Sutton High values of courage, truth and joy and highlighted the strong sense of belonging that they have developed since joining the Senior School in September.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Congratulations to all the performers for their hard work and achievement, and thank you to the Music Department staff and the many colleagues whose support helped make the event such a success.
