Welcome to Year 8 – A New Chapter Begins

It is a real pleasure to welcome you all to Year 8. This new academic year marks the start of an exciting chapter, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be working with such a fantastic group of young people. Having worked closely with the girls last year, I already feel a strong connection with them. I have seen their warmth, energy, and individuality shine through, and I am truly delighted that we now move forward together into the next stage of their school lives.

Year 8 is a time of real growth. The girls begin to stretch themselves academically, take greater ownership of their learning, and build confidence in new and exciting ways. It is a stage of growing independence and deeper self-discovery, and I feel privileged to be walking alongside them as they navigate it.

Having been part of this school community for over 10 years, I can honestly say it feels like home. What I value most is our deep commitment to both academic achievement and personal growth. This is a school that truly celebrates every individual: their story, background, and what makes them unique.

My own passion lies in languages, which has drawn me to the rich diversity within our student body. I love hearing about the different languages spoken at home and the cultural traditions that are important to our pupils and their families. For me, getting to know our students is one of the greatest joys of this role. Language helps us build empathy, curiosity, and a deeper understanding of each other — values I aim to nurture in Year 8 every day.

As Head of Year, my goal is for every student to feel seen, supported, and encouraged to be their best. Whether they are thriving academically, exploring new interests, or navigating the ups and downs of growing up, they can rely on me, and our fantastic pastoral and teaching team, every step of the way.

To our wonderful Year 8 girls: I hope this year brings discovery, laughter, and courage. Be proud of who you are, be kind, and never stop asking questions. This is your time to grow, and I could not be more excited to share it with you.

Warmest wishes,
Mrs Arleta Drewniak-Davis
