EYFS – Spa Treatments!

In Early Years, we have been thinking of some fun ways to stay cool!
Following the torrential storm one morning, we discovered a small pool of water on top of the sand pit cover. So, we turned it into our own spa!!!

EYFS – A Rocket Crash!

This morning we received a message that our school caretakers had found that a rocket had crashed in our school gardens.
Of course, Reception had to investigate!
We observed very carefully and then drew and labelled all the things that we could remember, which included space boots, space scrambled eggs, a mask, silver leggings and lots of wreckage from the crash.
We wondered how it could have got there and where it came from…

Year 3 – Etta Sprints To Double Podium Success!

From Patience to Purpose: Aadya’s Hair Donation Journey

After planning it for more than two years, Aadya finally had her hair cut a few weeks ago and donated it to The Little Princess Trust, a charity that creates real‑hair wigs for children who have lost their own hair through illness.

SHS Prep Chess Champs!

On 12^th June, the SHS U-11 team of Ritwika, Aiza, Oviya, Sia, Alina, Tofe, Ella and Zoya played an 8-board match against Robin Hood. It is the first time we have played against Robin Hood and we were a little nervous because it is a large school. Zoya managed to win in 4 moves, and then later we knew we had won the match when Tofe delivered a key checkmate to make the score 5-1. Everyone worked really hard and the final score was 8-2. Well done to all who played! On 19^th June, the SHS U-9 team of Devasena, Lizzie, Neha, Marta, Freya and Myla played a 6-board match against Homefield. It is always tough doing anything competitive against Homefield, but the girls were quietly confident after hearing about the U-11 team’s success against Devonshire the week before. Freya got the team off to a great start with an early win and then Myla and Marta overpowered their opponents to guarantee Sutton could not lose the match. The other three games could have gone either way as the high-quality moves were batted back and forth. Devasena finally broke the deadlock and delivered checkmate five minutes before the end of the match. The final score was 4-2. It was a tense match played in great spirits. Lots of friendly chess encounters took place for those finishing early, in which the score was also 4-2 in favour of Sutton!

Year 4 – Lizzie Makes a Splash at Regional Champions

Year 5

Merina invited a group of year 5 friends and a year 9 big sister to come to a Penguin feed at London Zoo, raising money for ZSL Conservation projects.

Together as a group, Merina, Annie, Olivia, Ella, Uma, Ella Rose, and sisters Leah & Hannah
donated £190.00, which was spread across a few Conservation charities,-
ZSL, WWF, WLT, The Wildlife Trusts, and Flora & Fauna. All charities that David Attenborough supports.

The friends Investigated all the areas with animals & birds where they could go inside their cages, with them, and many larger ones, where they dared not !
This year the Zoo is celebrating its 200th year. While David Attenborough who worked closely with ZSL reached his 100th year, as all the girls turn 10yrs.

A year of many special memories, with school friends, with this, as one to be proud of 🌟

Y6s Residential To Flatford Mill – By Emma H and Emily L

“As soon as the coach pulled up at Flatford Mill, we were all chatty and excited . We gathered our suitcases and wellington boots together and started to head down to the Mill. Once we were off the coach, we had to walk down a long road while pulling our suitcase along behind us (it was a very long walk!). Then, we were taken into a building called Valley Farm, which some of us stayed in. After that, we were told the three activity groups that we would be in. The group leaders were called Sam, Marcus and Irene. Group 1’s first activity was orienteering, while group 2 were doing survival skills, and group 3 were doing pond dipping. And, yes, the residential was quite a mucky one!

After we had a delicious meal of pizza and chips, all the groups headed off to their last activity of the day. Group 1 and 3 had green artist while group 2 had a campfire. At the campfire, songs were sung, hot chocolate was chugged and riddles were solved. Meanwhile, at green artist, we were creating unique, natural pieces of art inspired by the inspiring artist Andy Goldsworthy.

Night one was a wild one. We all had tonnes of energy (the teachers didn’t seem too happy about that!). Squishies were squished, beds were jumped on and “UNO!” was yelled. Eventually, we all got to sleep (but only for a few hours).

The next morning, we awoke to a delicious breakfast and, as soon as we had finished, we headed to our first activity mammal trapping.

In the mammal trapping activity, we filled the traps with hay then added fruit, meal worms/maggots and seeds. After, we left the traps to catch some mammals. The next morning, we checked the traps and we found no mammals so we tried once more and we succeeded! Overall, we found 4 mammals, including voles and mice. We had worked up a great appetite so it was time for our home-made sandwiches.

That morning, we had made sandwiches for our lunch, There were different stations: the first was where you buttered your bread and the next station was toppings you could add cheese, tuna, egg, ham and so much more. Station 3 was crisps and biscuits! If you didn’t want sandwiches there was different types of pasta too.

After we ate, we headed to our next activity- survival skills. We learnt how to build a shelter, filter water and create a fire. First, we filtered water using a water bottle a cloth and dirty water. We had to put the cloth over half a water bottle then pour the water into the other bottle to filter the water- we had to do it a few times. Next, we had shelter building, we were put into our groups. We had to pick a base first and then started building around the base, once we had finished our instructor poured water on us to see if it was a good shelter. Finally, we were taken to sit around the campfire where we made fires. First, we used a metal stick and rectangle, also a replacement for flint, then we used it on a piece of cotton wool in a small, tart sized dish. Some of us succeeded, yet some didn’t .

Next was dinner and we all were starving after a packed day! For dinner, we had a delicious mushroom pasta. We all ate it very quickly in anticipation for our sticky toffee pudding. Everyone loved it and we had some time to spare so we played in the garden for a bit. We all crashed out that night way quicker than we expected.

The next morning, we had a fry up and made our sandwiches. We headed out for our final activity of the residential. It was so fun! Then, we all ate together on the grass. A great way to end our residential !

We were sad to say goodbye to Flatford Mill but we all made memories that would last a lifetime.”

Year 6 Summer Production – Grimm, Once upon a Musical.

“On Wednesday 17th and Thursday 18th June, the entirety of Year 6 performed their end of year production – ‘Grimm, Once upon a Musical’.  

We worked tirelessly to put on a show that we’ll never forget. Each performance was fun, fantastic, and fierce.  A Year 5 pupil proclaimed after the dress rehearsal ‘that it was the best show she’d ever seen’.  Glowing feedback!  

This production didn’t just come together by itself, but from the dedicated directorship of Kat Merrick of Katerpillarcreatives .  During the process, she was an inspiration. She transformed some of the quietest girls in Year 6 to getting on stage and giving it their all.  In addition, we must thank  the Year 6 teachers for their support and organisation of the play. Without them, nothing like this could have happened.

Year 6s ‘Grow £5 Charity’

Year 6 recently took part in the Grow £5 challenge, where they showed outstanding teamwork, creativity, and determination to raise money for their chosen charity: Parkinson’s UK. Working mostly on their own, the girls planned, bought products, set up stalls, and sold their items at the Summer Fair and to the rest of Key Stage 2. Their efforts truly reflected the spirit of being fiercely independent, as they managed every step of the process with confidence and enthusiasm. Thanks to their hard work, they raised a significant total profit of £1,194.34, all of which will be donated to Parkinson’s UK, a charity that holds a special place in our school community. We are incredibly proud of their achievement and thrilled that their dedication will support such a meaningful cause.
