Mrs Lawlor’s 26‑Mile Challenge for the Royal Marsden

On 2nd May, two friends and I embarked on a 26 mile hike in support of the fantastic Royal Marsden Hospital.  It was across the most beautiful, testing and undulating landscape with an early start departing from Brighton Racecourse and finishing in Eastbourne.  The hike included spectacular views across Firle Beacon and the stunning stretch of clifftops known as the Seven Sisters including Beachy Head.  The weather was mostly on our side until we reached the Seven Sisters at which point the heavens opened! Inspiring stories, good company and knowing we were doing something useful kept us going!

The Royal Marsden Hospital has a site located very close to Sutton High School and I and indeed many other friends have benefitted from the superb services this hospital and its staff provide.  It is well known for world-leading cancer research, outstanding patient care and state-of-the-art technology.  It is a hospital which you hope you will never need but you are very grateful to have it so close by when necessary!  It felt the right thing to do to raise money for such a wonderful place.

Thanks to the generosity of colleagues, friends and family, I was able to raise over £1500 which I know will be put to good use.  It was an ideal opportunity to push myself outside of my comfort zone and embark on something I had never done before.  You are never too old to try something new!
