Mediverse is a science club where students from year 9 up to 13 explore the latest scientific discoveries making headlines. Through group discussions, students stay up to date with new ideas while building confidence in sharing their thoughts. The club also runs friendly debates on how scientific developments are used in the real world, encouraging everyone to look at different sides of each issue and think carefully about both the benefits and possible concerns.
One of the highlights of Mediverse is the “Dissection Club,” where students take part in hands-on sessions with guided support. Working with specimens such as squid and mice, members learn practical skills and gain a deeper understanding of biology in a respectful and engaging way. Overall, Mediverse offers a great balance of discussion, debate, and practical experience for students interested in science.
Hayley (yr 12): ” I really value being part of Biology Direction Club because it gives me the opportunity to explore topics in more detail than we can during normal lessons. The sessions are engaging and often involve discussions and activities that help reinforce my understanding in a more memorable way.
This has had a positive impact on my learning in class, as I feel more confident when approaching new topics and better prepared to answer questions. It also helps me make connections between different areas of biology, which improves my overall understanding.
As someone who wants to go into Zoology when I’m older, dissection club really gives me the chance and the inspiration to learn more about the animals I want to study and work with in the future. It allows me to get as close to real-life experience as I can get in school.
Overall, the club has increased my interest in the subject and supported my progress by helping me stay curious, engaged, and more independent in my learning.”
Prabhdeep (yr12): “As a Sixth Form student, I found the school dissection club to be an incredibly valuable and enriching experience, and a fantastic addition to our extracurricular programme. It provided a unique opportunity to explore biological science beyond the classroom through hands-on learning, allowing us to develop a much deeper understanding of anatomical structures and functions. Throughout each session, students approached the work with a high level of professionalism, curiosity, and respect, which created a focused and supportive environment. The club was extremely well-organised, with clear guidance provided, enabling everyone to feel confident and engaged regardless of their prior experience. Personally, I found it particularly beneficial in reinforcing my interest in science and helping me consider future pathways in medical and scientific fields. Overall, the dissection club has been a highly rewarding and inspiring experience, and I would strongly encourage other students to take part.”
