There are school trips… and then there are Sutton High ski trips.
This year’s #SHSSkiTrip was a truly special week – set against a stunning mountain backdrop but defined far more by the spirit of the pupils who took part. From the very first steps onto the slopes to the confidence shown by the end of the week, our pupils have demonstrated real courage: pushing themselves beyond what felt comfortable, embracing challenge, and showing determination in every run.
What has stood out just as powerfully is the sense of truth in their approach – pupils recognising their starting points, being honest about the challenges they faced, and committing to improve. That self-awareness, combined with the support they offered one another, has led to genuine growth. Encouragement on the slopes, shared successes, and resilience after the inevitable falls have all reflected a community that is both supportive and increasingly fiercely independent.
And then there has been the unmistakable sense of joy. Whether carving through fresh snow, celebrating progress at the end of a long day, or gathering in the evenings, this group has brought energy and laughter to every moment. Indeed, if there were ever a record for the number of card games played on a school trip, this cohort would almost certainly have broken it – combining fierce competition with plenty of laughs and camaraderie.
This has been far more than a skiing trip. It has been a week of personal challenge, growing independence, and shared experience, one in which our pupils have embodied the very best of Sutton High.
