A WICKED Day to Remember: Year 6 ‘Young Voices’ Sing-Along

On Thursday the 22nd January, Year 6 had an amazing treat to watch the annual WICKED sing-along live from the O2 in London.

We entered the music room in Fernwood House with lots of excitement. One minute from officially starting, we decided to do a countdown (which we did in our New Year’s assembly on the 16th) from 10 seconds. They opened the sing-along by showing clips of schools that were at the O2. After, they switched to the reporter – who was an elegantly-dressed lady called Gigi – whom explained that there were schools from other countries in the stadium: some were from Algeria, Brazil and Hong Kong. After they showed some clips of the VIP visiting schools across the UK and then the singing finally started. We sang the following: No one mourns the Wicked, The Wizard and I, What is this feeling, One Short Day, For Good and finally Defying Gravity.

After One Short Day, a lady dressed like Elphaba (also known as the Wicked Witch of the West) started leading the crowd into the singing: it was Emma Kingston, who played Elphaba in the theatre version of WICKED. As soon as the event ended, the Year 6 girls started demanding to sing more WICKED songs that were not in the event. In conclusion, I think this sing-along was a great opportunity for girls to show their singing talents and have fun.
