On 22nd September, Tech Club were delighted to welcome Becca Elsey for an activities-led talk on stage management. Becca Elsey is a professional stage manager, currently working on Paddington the Experience. Becca trained at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and has worked across regional theatres, producing houses, and West End venues.
Becca talked through the different roles of stage management, from the beginning of rehearsals to performing on stage, and the type of duties involved. All students participated in setting up prop tables with thought about the different items and challenges they pose backstage, as well as how to do scene changes quickly and quietly with teamwork, for a smooth-running show. Afterwards, Becca also answered some very specialised questions from passionate students.
Tech Club continues to run for students who love theatre but don’t necessarily want to perform, in a fun and safe environment. Tech Club seeks to highlight the world beyond the theatre, allowing young students to explore the technical world and use their creativity on quality school productions, and guiding older students in soft and hard skills looking beyond school productions.
