From Wednesday 12th to Saturday 15th November, thirteen of our U15 hockey players travelled to Newcastle to compete in the GDST Hockey Rally. Spirits were high from the outset, with the team bonding on the journey through a lively game of Traitors, complete with secret roles and plenty of detective work.
On Wednesday evening, the girls enjoyed a team meal where discussions about who the traitors might be were already in full swing. The following morning included a spot of shopping before the squad turned their attention to the afternoon’s hockey fixtures.
Day One Matches
The team opened the tournament with an impressive 2–0 win. They then faced two strong opponents, resulting in 3–0 and 2–1 losses, but their determination and teamwork never wavered. The day concluded with a fun evening of mini-golf.
Day Two Matches
Friday saw an early start and another three matches. The girls showed fantastic progress, earning a 1–1 draw against the team that had beaten them 3–0 the previous day. They followed this with a well-deserved 1–0 victory. Their final match was a tough 3–1 loss, though they scored a brilliant last-minute goal from a short corner.
To round off the day, the group enjoyed a competitive session of laser tag followed by a trip to watch the Newcastle Eagles basketball team.
Final Day – Cup Competition
The team’s strong performances earned them a place in the Cup competition on Saturday morning. Two impressive 0–0 draws showcased excellent defensive work and outstanding goalkeeping. The final match ended in a 2–0 defeat, securing the team a very respectable 3rd place overall.
Throughout the trip, every player demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and a positive attitude both on and off the pitch. The journey home saw the conclusion of the Traitors game, with the faithfuls triumphing in the final round tables.
It was a fantastic few days of hockey, team spirit, and memorable experiences. Well done to Darcey, Isabelle, Christie, Edie, Zara, Eva, Florence Sophie, Jessica, Olivia, Charlotte, Ellie and Paige!
