Oxford Insights: A Journey Through 17th Century England

On 12th July Miss Abbott and Ms Threlfall took the Y12 History and Politics students to the Crowell Association student conference at Magdalen College School, Oxford. They listened to debates about the inevitability of the execution of Charles I, Cromwell’s faith and his political beliefs, and the role of the Navy in the Parliamentarian English Civil War victories. The students engaged with eminent historians such as Ann Hughes and David L. Smith and showed excellent insights into the period when analysing sources about women’s involvement in peace negotiations in 1646. The students then went on a tour of sunny Oxford, seeing the locations used by Charles I when he based his forces there in 1643. They all had a fantastic day and learnt a huge amount about History, as well as preparing them for university style study.
