On Remembrance Day, Year 6 performed at the Act of Remembrance Service in Trinity Square. We sang the following hymns: O God Our Help In Ages Past, For The Healing Of The Nations and The National Anthem. We were conducted by Mr French, who helped us with the dynamics, revising the words in the hymns and he also taught us new breathing techniques.
We were delighted to meet the Mayor of Sutton after the service. We particularly enjoyed singing the National Anthem, as the audience joined in with us, and we also enjoyed hearing the Reveille played on the trumpet.
Did you know different coloured poppies have different meanings? The red poppy is a symbol of remembrance and hope for a peaceful future.
Cassidy and Natasha were invited by the Belmont Royal British Legion to take part in their annual Remembrance Service and Parade to represent Sutton High School. Several other schools from the local area (Seaton House, Harris Academy, Overton Grange, Avenue Primary, Devonshire Primary and Greenholm schools) also participated and placed wreaths at the Belmont War Memorial, together with cadets from 219 Squadron Air Cadets.
Cassidy and Natasha’s message on the wreath from SHS read ‘We remember every brave man or woman who has lost their life in war. We shall never forget you.’
and finally, Year 2 got creative, creating poppies on their iPads to mark Remembrance Day.
