“From 19th to 21st October, the sixth form went on a school trip to Geneva, Switzerland. We had an early start, leaving for the airport at 5am and arriving in Geneva at around 11am. Once there, we explored some of the city’s famous sights together. On the first day, we visited the Red Cross Museum, where we learned about its mission and the incredible work it does, such as helping people wounded in wars across the world. On the way, we also stopped outside the United Nations headquarters and the Broken Chair monument.
The next morning, we set off on a walking tour. Despite the forecast of rain all day, we still managed to enjoy ourselves. The tour included views of Lake Geneva, old battle cannons, and a visit to Geneva Cathedral. In the afternoon, teachers and students had some free time to explore the city’s many exciting shops.
On the final day of the trip, we travelled to CERN, home of the Large Hadron Collider. After exploring the exhibitions, we regrouped to attend a physics presentation where various experiments were explained and demonstrated. Although some of the content was challenging to follow, the presentation was engaging and entertaining. Later, we headed to the mountain range between Switzerland and France, taking a cable car up before hiking across the mountain. The views were breathtaking—we were even level with the clouds!
Finally, we returned to the airport for our flight home, arriving back at school around 11pm.
Personally, I found the trip very enjoyable, and it helped me feel more comfortable as part of the sixth form. Despite the cold and wet weather, it was absolutely worth it and was organised brilliantly by the teachers.” – Malini, Sixth Former at Sutton High School
