As part of the GDST’s commitment to sustainability and the environment, the first ever Sustainability Survey was launched across all 23 schools. Over 10 000 students completed the survey; this means more than 72% of all GDST students in Years 5 to 13 had their voices heard on matters concerning the environment.
The information collected will be invaluable for the GDST in how we move forward with plans to integrate and embed sustainable practices in all schools. On the back of this, 3 students from Sutton will be selected to take part in a Focus Group to do a deep dive into some of the initial findings. This is an incredible opportunity for students to contribute and shape how we can make sustainability something that we all do and practise, not just a word that is forgotten and buried under a pile of rubbish, carbon emissions and food waste!
Finally, for the month of June, we are going Wild as part of the GDST’s Summer Term’s Collective Action. 30 Days Wild is aimed at connecting us with each other and with nature. As David Attenborough, a 100 year old living legend, once said: ‘No one will protect what they don’t care about; and no one will care about what they have never experienced.’ Help us bring nature back into the daily lives of all our students! 30 Days Wild isn’t just an initiative – it’s a proven ‘happiness boost.’ Research shows that daily engagement with the outdoors makes students healthier, happier and more environmentally conscious. This is a GDST-wide month toward better wellbeing and a greener future.
