Alice scored the first win, followed by Aiza, Devasena and Neha.
That put the match at 4-4 with Homefield slightly ahead on points in the final game. The match was due to stop at 4.55 p.m., when suddenly Oviya found an incredible checkmate at 4.54 p.m. which secured a victory for SHS of 5-4.
Well done to all the girls who played in the extremely close match and we plan to repeat the challenge next term.
After their first game, the girls challenged the same, or another, Homefield player to gain further experience with friendly matches until time was up. Notably, Sia won two friendly games and Ritwika beat the same opponent.
Marta, who has a bright future in chess, was the youngest player of the match and Sophie made a very impressive debut.
Homefield was very welcoming – you can’t miss the enormous cookies!
