Students at Sutton High School GDST are celebrating an exceptional set of GCSE results this summer, with the Class of 2026 achieving impressive success across a wide range of subjects.
An outstanding 23% of all grades were awarded at Grade 9 (4 times the national average), while more than two-thirds of all results were at Grades 9-7 (equivalent to A/A*). Almost half of all grades achieved were at Grades 9-8, the equivalent of the former A.
There was also plenty of individual success to celebrate, with ten students achieving straight Grade 9s and a further twenty students securing a clean sweep of Grades 9-7.
The results reflect Sutton High School’s commitment to offering a broad and ambitious curriculum, with particularly strong performances across STEM subjects. In Computer Science, 75% of grades were awarded at Grade 9, while across Biology, Chemistry and Physics, 50% of grades achieved were Grade 9s. Mathematics students also excelled, with 55% of grades awarded at Grade 9.
Success extended across the humanities and creative subjects too, with more than half of all grades achieved at Grade 9 in:
History (65%)
Music (66%)
Geography (61%)
Religious Studies (57%)
Business (50%)
Beyond their academic achievements, the Class of 2026 has made a significant contribution to school life through their involvement in performing arts, sport, cultural diversity initiatives and outreach projects.
Our GCSE Class of 2026 is a wonderful group of young people who have contributed a great deal to our school community, particularly through performing arts, work within our cultural diversity and outreach projects, and sport. I am delighted that they are now able to celebrate academic success too, with this strong set of examination results. They are well set for A Levels in our Sixth Form and we look forward to supporting them as they make this exciting transition.
Beth Dawson, Head of Sutton High School GDST
As students look ahead to the next stage of their education, the entire Sutton High community congratulates them on their hard work, determination and achievements, and wishes them every success as they begin their Sixth Form journey.
