A Joyful Homecoming: Alumnae from 1957 to 2021 Return for Sutton High’s Reunion

Sutton High School was alive with laughter, memories, and heartfelt reconnections on Saturday as alumnae from across the decades—spanning the Class of 1957 through to 2021—returned for a truly wonderful reunion. Many travelled remarkable distances, including from New Zealand and Connecticut, to be part of the occasion, underscoring the enduring strength of the Sutton High community. From the moment guests arrived, the atmosphere was one of warmth and familiarity. The Class of 1976, celebrating their 50th anniversary, turned out in impressive numbers with more than thirty alumnae. The Class of 1986, marking 40 years since leaving Sutton High, also gathered in force, adding to the excitement of the day. Guests were welcomed by Head of Prep and alumna Mrs Emily Ruiz, whose opening remarks set the tone for an afternoon filled with connection and celebration. Old friends embraced, swapped stories, and wandered the corridors that once shaped their school days, rekindling memories at every turn.

A highlight for many was the chance to explore the school’s rich history with archivist Mrs Sue James. Her collection of anecdotes and artefacts sparked lively conversations and nostalgia. Current Sixth Formers led guided tours of the campus, offering alumnae a glimpse into how the school has evolved while preserving its cherished traditions. Visitors were especially captivated by the Dr Louise Cooke Science Laboratory—a state‑of‑the‑art facility made possible through a generous legacy from alumna Dr Louise Cooke. (Class of 1971) Afternoon tea and fizz added to the celebratory atmosphere, giving guests the perfect setting to relax, reconnect, and reflect on their shared experiences.

While this year’s reunion placed special focus on the milestone anniversaries of the Classes of 1976 and 1986, alumnae from every year group were warmly welcomed and well represented, creating a truly intergenerational gathering.
The school encouraged attendees to stay connected through the GDST alumnae network, ensuring they continue to receive updates, newsletters, and invitations to future events.

As the afternoon drew to a close, the school expressed heartfelt thanks to all who attended, noting how special it was to welcome so many familiar faces back “home.” Warm wishes were extended particularly to those who had travelled great distances.

Looking ahead, Sutton High is already preparing for its next whole‑school reunion, scheduled for Saturday 20th March 2027, from 12–3pm. Bookings will open shortly.

With tours, refreshments, and another opportunity to reconnect, it promises to be just as memorable.
For now, the school celebrates a day filled with Courage, Truth and Joy—a shining reminder of the enduring bonds that unite the Sutton High alumnae community.
